ARESSANA HOTEL
The name Aressana is derived from the script found at the Acrotiri excavations dating back to l500 BC.
Archaeologists believe this to be the name a young maiden that offered gifts to the gods. Housed in a design by celebrated Greek architects, Thomas Gavalas and Dora Monioudi, Aressana has become to epitomize the gracious hospitality that the Santorinian people are renown for.
The Santorini of volcano, vines and sunsets over ancient civilizations now shines on another facet. Traditional weddings in Santorini
Hotel Aressana is pleased to offer the opportunity to experience the old world charm of a traditional wedding in the splendour and the beauty of Santorini.
Allow us to arrange and organise a Santorinian wedding complete with all the customs, traditions and rituals that will ensure this day to be an unforgettable experience.
Starting with fully decorated honeymoon suite, and the dressing of the wedding bed in white, hand made tapestries, flowers, and bonbons koufeta (white almond candy) by a group of young, unmarried women. The dressing of the matrimonial bed is very important in the Greek tradition. Once the bed is made, it is showered with money and a young child is tossed on the bed, to assure the couple healthy children and much prosperity. Should the bride wish it, these young girls will assist her in her preparation and dressing.
The wedding ceremony can take place in the city hall or in the grand central Cathedral, or one of the small, intimate churches scattered on the cliff face, with imposing views of the spectacular caldera. Tradition says that the bride and groom travel to the church by donkeys, mules and horses or on foot, accompanied by local musicians playing violins and tambourines.
After the ceremony, traditional sweets and drinks are offered on the hotel's terrace complemented by music and dancing, and then Santorini's finest restaurants and taverns are available. A wedding feast that will delight all.
The following morning, breakfast is served in bed to mark the beginning of another beautiful day, and a wonderful life together.
