MATI Art Gallery, was established in 1989 by the art group "studio 71" and sculptor Yorgos Kypris. Santorini was chosen due to its unique beauty, which makes it the most popular Aegean island amongst foreign visitors.

Our interest is focused on promoting contemporary works of highest standards, contrary to the usual tourist status of kitch and folklore, to mark out a part of Greece, which is concerned about notions like "interesting" and "beautiful".

In the 12 past years we have presented with success the labor of important artists through works of sculpture, installations, paintings, etchings, art jewels, art objects in general.

Many of these works, make part of collections all around the world. This gives us satisfaction, because our interest, is to spread fractions of the Greek Contemporary Art and culture, as mush as possible.

MATI Art Gallery is located on the top of the Caldera clif in Fira, the capital of Santorini. You can find us next to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Ypapantis street. The Gallery is open every day (including Saturdays and Sundays) from 15 March to 15 November, all the day round.

Fish Sculptures - "Fish", is the biggest in volume and the longer in duration work of the artist. With a poetic touch he shows the sovereignty of humans on other forms of life. Mainly he presents fish as victims of the feeding and preservation needs of human kind.
